Post links directly to pdf in media library

    Vestige Theme.
    Here’s what I’d like to do: I have a featured post that appears in Revolution Slider. The post itself is nothing but a link to a .pdf newsletter stored in the media library. I have tried by using “link” and “image” formats to get a click on the featured image (Rev Slider) to go straight to the .pdf newsletter instead of routing visitors through the post itself. Is this not what “link” format is for? I can see nowhere to put the link to /wp-content other than to put it in the post.
    I’m a WP dummy, trying to manage a site put together by a developer using mostly Page Builder. Hope I’ve made it clear what I’m trying to do.

    http://www.sfvaudubon.org — the post is “Phainopepla Is Now Online” linked to the banner on Rev. Slider

    Thanks

    @jhoughton1,

    You can link the slides using “Links & Seo” settings inside slider.Please see this doc below for detailed description:

    Thanks, but waaaay too complicated.

    So just curious, what does “link” or “image” format in post creation mean, exactly?

    @jhoughton1,

    1)A link post format contains a link to a web location. Ideally it is used when a user just want to share a link instead of writing a post. They can just add a title of the link and the URL or optionally add their own commentary for the link.

    2)An image post format in WordPress is used to display a single image or photograph.

    For more information on this, you can go through this :

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Formats

    Thanks
