Sermon Date

iSermons provides a dedicated Date Preached field that is separate from the standard WordPress publish date. This lets you accurately record when a sermon was actually delivered, regardless of when it was uploaded to your website.

Where to Find It

The Date Preached field is located inside the Sermon Details meta box, which appears below the content editor when editing a sermon.

How to Use It

  1. Open any sermon in the editor (iSermons → Add New or click an existing sermon title).
  2. Scroll down to find the Sermon Details meta box.
  3. Click the date field and select or type the date in MM/DD/YYYY format, e.g. 06/15/2024.
  4. Save or publish the sermon.

How the Date is Used

Context Behaviour
Sorting in lists When the [isermons-list] shortcode or Elementor widget uses orderby="date", it sorts by the Date Preached value.
Year filter The year-based filter dropdown on sermon list pages is populated from the Date Preached field, allowing visitors to browse sermons by year they were delivered.
Display on frontend If Settings → General → Display Date is set to Preached, this date is shown alongside the sermon title and on the sermon detail page.

Note: If you leave the Date Preached field empty, iSermons falls back to the WordPress post publish date for sorting and display purposes.
