Cron Jobs (Scheduled Emails)

Eventer plugin relies on schedule events to do things like generating tickets, sending tickets and other emails to users. WordPress uses its own internal cron system (wp-cron.php) to handle scheduled tasks, such as publishing scheduled posts, sending email notifications, and running plugin-related tasks. However, this system only runs when someone visits the site, which can be unreliable for sites with low traffic.

Some hosts like WPEngine or Kinsta have their own built in CRON schedules which run periodically by own. If you are using these hosts then you are all set and for other hosting by setting up a server-level cron job, you ensure that wp-cron.php is triggered at regular intervals regardless of site traffic.

How to setup CRON in your hosting environment

  1. Login to Your Hosting Control Panel: Access your hosting control panel (e.g., cPanel, Plesk).
  2. Find the Cron Jobs Section: Locate the Cron Jobs section, usually found under the Advanced category with name like Cron Jobs or Scheduled Tasks.
  3. Add a New Cron Job:
    • Command: Use the following command, replacing https://example.com with your actual site URL:
      wget -q -O - https://example.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_cron > /dev/null 2>&1
    • Schedule: Set the schedule to run every 15 minutes with the following settings:
      • Minute: */15
      • Hour: *
      • Day: *
      • Month: *
      • Weekday: *
  4. Save the Cron Job: Save the cron job settings.
  5. Disable WordPress Cron: Add the following line to the wp-config.php file to disable the default WordPress cron:
    define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true);
